Bovis Lend Lease wins contract to deliver new Brisbane Supreme Court and District Court precinct
Lend Lease Corporation Limited (”Lend Lease”) today announced that its subsidiary, Bovis Lend Lease Pty Limited (“Bovis Lend Lease”), has been appointed by the Queensland Government to deliver Queensland’s latest major state project, the new Brisbane Supreme and District Court complex. The Bovis Lend Lease contract value will be approximately A$475 million out of a total project cost of A$600 million.

As managing contractor, Bovis Lend Lease will work with the design team and stakeholders to create a world-class facility on the Queensland Place site, which is bounded by George and Roma Streets and the existing Brisbane Magistrates Court building.

The project involves the development of a new Supreme Court and District Court building which will be the principal courthouse for the Supreme Court and the symbolic centre of the judicial arm of the Queensland Government. This new development is a major component of the Government’s revitalisation of the western CBD precinct and will be one of the largest courthouses in Australia.

The Brisbane Supreme Court and District Court precinct will interface within the existing Brisbane Magistrates Court site and facilitate a link between the Tank Street pedestrian and cycle bridge and the existing walkway link beside the Brisbane Magistrates Court.

Bovis Lend Lease will work with the Government and design team to deliver a sustainable development and apply the principles of resources efficiency, particularly in water and energy, to the delivery of the project as well as using recycling and minimising waste during the construction process.

Construction on the iconic building is expected to start in October this year and it is scheduled to open towards the end of 2011.

Managing Director of Bovis Lend Lease Australia, Mr Tony Costantino, said Bovis Lend Lease was proud to be delivering this project.

“The Brisbane Supreme Court and District Court precinct will be a powerful and iconic place, the centrepiece for Queensland’s judicial system. We are delighted to be playing a role in delivering an asset of this quality and importance to the people of Queensland,” said Mr Costantino.

“This project continues the long term partnership Bovis Lend Lease has forged with the Queensland Government over the past 30 years. We will work closely with Government and all stakeholders to deliver this landmark precinct,” he said.

Bovis Lend Lease has partnered with the Queensland Government on a number of the State’s major public building projects including Millennium Arts at the Queensland Cultural Centre, Royal Brisbane Hospital, the recently completed Preparatory Year Schools project, Brisbane Correctional Centre redevelopment and Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre expansion. The organisation is also currently providing building consultancy services for the Gold Coast University Hospital project and undertaking the upgrade of Brisbane airport’s international terminal.

Across Australia, Bovis Lend Lease has an impressive record of delivering major public projects including the National Museum in Canberra and the Athletes Village for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The Company is currently working on the new home for the Melbourne Theatre Company and Melbourne Recital Centre and Australia’s largest healthcare project, the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
